Welcome to the ComNSense Project

The ComNSense Project, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), focuses on the development of a universal method for the automated generation of interior models by mobile sensors. In a nutshell, the idea is to automatically collect odometry traces from mobile devices that are carried and owned by the general public to derive indoor floor plans. Hence, our two major goals are:

  1. Derive 2D floor plans from odometry data collected by smartphones or foot-mounted-sensors.
  2. Derive 3D indoor models from camera images that were taken by users with mobile phones or smart glasses.

Furthermore, we also focus on more general domains that cover the automatic acquisition of all kind of sensor data from mobile devices. The idea of Public Sensing is to automatically collect sensor data that is available on a mobile device, like noise or temperature. This enables the low-cost provisioning of real-time sensor data considering spatial and environmental dimensions, which can be used for a wide range of applications.
